Growing up, I spent a lot of time foraging various edible mushrooms with my nonno and parents. As I grew older, I became increasingly curious about mushrooms and how they grew.
Myself and Ben French from Yards Pty. Ltd. had the opportunity to visit Eastwell Farms in Kin Kin. This is an Australian-owned family farm that produces gourmet mushrooms and raises cows.
Bryant and Susie gave us a tour of the farm, explaining their 8-10 week process for growing oyster and lion’s mane mushrooms. We went through all stages of the process, from creating the substrate bags to harvesting the final product and making compost with the leftover organic matter.
It was amazing to see what can be achieved with four shipping containers, which had been transformed into mushroom growing areas. The containers now feature automated temperature control as well as humidity and oxygen regulation.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about how mushrooms are grown and have gained a deep appreciation for the hard work and time it takes to produce these crops.
I would like to sincerely thank Bryant and Susie for the tour of their wonderful farm. Additionally, I want to thank Ben for connecting us and making this visit possible.
